All Abilities Deserve Help
Our Supported Playgroup is aimed at preschool aged 0-6 and their parents. And even though we are Disability Macarthur, this program is for all abilities, not just disabilities. This is a family care program that is open to all children and their parents, because all families could use help, now and then.
Parenting isn’t easy. Choosing the right schools, health care, and even play groups can make large impacts on our child.
Supported playgroups provide the peace of mind that your child is getting the nurturing and care they need in an environment that will support them.

Parents who desire support or time to recharge
Life Skills and Social Support for Children and Time for Parents
Our groups support parents, as well. Here, parents can sit back and enjoy a cup of tea and relax or interact with other parents. Parents are also welcomed to take part in the activities, and many find that they can take these ideas home for more opportunities to interact with their children.
Life Skills and Social Support for Children and Time for Parents
The most common playgroups are those run privately by other parents. But our Supported Playgroup is run by professional facilitators, which enhances the experience through organised activities, efficiency, and play with a purpose.
We understand that when children are just brought together to play, things can become awkward for those who are new to a group or for those with social anxiety.
But having organised activities naturally brings children together, as they share a common goal and purpose. That’s why we ensure that each week is filled with activities that children will enjoy.

Why Come to Supported Playgroup Macarthur?
Our Supported Playgroup offers many benefits to children and parents. And face it, all parents and carers need time to recharge, no matter what their children’s abilities are. We want you to feel safe and satisfied as you know your children are being cared for while having fun. Here are just some of the benefits of our playgroup:
Parents Enjoy Supported Playgroups, Often as Much as the Children!
Parents face a number of challenges when raising young children including feelings of isolation, navigating local services for their children, and a desire to interact with other adults. Socialization and interaction are not only for the parent’s enjoyment, but often parents help each other navigate the local system, whether they are for health, school, or sports opportunities.
At the same time, parents with only one young child at home can bring about feelings of guilt because the child has nobody else to interact with, and parents or carers may have other responsibilities. Supported playgroups fill this void and help parents create social and learning opportunities for their young children.
Supported playgroups are a safe space for parents to connect with other parents, or for children to meet and play with other children. These groups are superior to groups that are not organised, because activities are also a chance to practice social skills and enhance skill development. For example, activities at Supported Playgroup Macarthur target different skills, such as activities that focus on fine motor skills.

How our Supported Playgroup Macarthur Works
How our Supported Playgroup Macarthur Works
Our group runs on school terms, 10 weeks per session, with the same school holidays. The groups are held on Tuesdays for two hours during normal school hours, 10am to 12pm.
All of our family programs are free, and there is no commitment to joining us the entire term. And we provide morning tea with a fruit platter, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks, as well.
Families who are new to the area also benefit as these groups provide an opportunity to meet other parents. If you experience social anxiety or feel like you don’t fit in, our professional facilitators can help by including you in activities, introducing you, or giving you space so you can feel comfortable on your own terms. We know that lockdowns have increased social anxiety, so we hope you give our groups a chance to reintegrate and allow you to feel connected and safe.
We cater to parents with children of all abilities, ages 0 to 6 years. Our program can enhance learning and social skills for all, including children with eating issues, sensory issues, and communication issues.
Quite often, children learn the routine by the end of a term, and familiarity leads to confidence and improved social skills.
