Where Do You Want to Go? Expand Your World with More Community Interaction…

Our clients learn life skills such as how to create a shopping list and then go to the market to work towards more confidence about shopping. Other topics include healthy cooking, personal hygiene, or cleaning.

We offer practical skill development with outings where you can learn to go to libraries and take a book, ride public transportation, purchase a train ticket, or even go to the local gym. These skills are reinforced with consistency, which helps our clients to learn to function outside of the home.

Practical skills may include real life, light job skills with hands-on approaches. For example, we have partnerships with local businesses such as Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard where our clients have an opportunity to shop, help sort books, and learn to stack things on shelves.

Our community partnerships with a range of local businesses provide hands-on skills and training in a variety of settings. Clients receive many opportunities to explore their interests and discover their talents.

The Life Skills program helps clients develop independence and provide an opportunity for real interaction. They have the opportunity to develop skill sets that can help them in everyday life to prepare them for real life situations.

Real Success Happens Here

Of course, each client is unique, and we understand that, which is why we limit our space to no more than 12 people. This allows the facilitators to focus on each client and their specific needs so they integrate and feel comfortable.

The more someone comes to the Life Skills Macarthur program, the greater chance of developing the skills needed to achieve more independence.

One success story includes a client who participated in the gym program. He eventually joined the gym on his own, outside of our program, and began going two days each week, independently.

We have also had clients who enjoyed travel learn to navigate train routes, and now enjoy riding trains with confidence and more independence.
