Looking for disability support services in the Sydney south-west region? We can definitely help!
Living with disability is not all about therapeutic solutions, the reality is, it is as much about just that – living with disability. It is about finding joy in the life that we have, rather than living in hope of some cure. Parents and carers of children with a disability know that very well. However, oftentimes, they can be left isolated from family and friends caring for their disabled child or children. It can feel like no one wants to know and nobody reaches out to help. Disability Macarthur has been founded on this premise; and our mission has been to do something about this gap in support services for the disabled, and their parents and carers.
Disability Support Services
Founded in the 1980s, and focusing on an area which has traditionally been starved of public services, a group came together to remedy this situation. Disability Macarthur was born out of this practical need to provide support services to families living with disability in the Sydney south west area. Today, this organisation runs 12 programs across 5 centres; and meets the needs of these communities and many individuals. These programs have been developed with direct input from clients and their families. A network of community groups, supportive businesses and families has been forged to meet the growing demand for further programs and expansion into new areas.
Disability support services are vital for the health and wellbeing of disabled individuals and their families. Providing respite, group activities, workshops, outings, counselling, support groups and custom designed programs to suit the specific requirements of clients – Disability Macarthur is meeting the needs of the community. So many of the simple pleasure of life can be denied to families living with disability, because the support is not there to help make things happen. As a society, we are all still learning to provide equitable opportunities for people with disabilities – there is a long way to go.
The Disability Macarthur staff and volunteers are all trained to meet the medical, physical and psychological needs of caring for those with disability. Many volunteers were once client families in the earlier years, who are now giving back to help other families in need today. There is a cycle of care operating within this organisation, which is based on family values and nurturing. Disability Macarthur is fully accredited to provide the programs on offer, is a not-for-profit organisation, and meets all workplace health and safety standards. We offer support, and do so, with the flexibility to meet your needs.
